Oregon Super Threatens Teachers

Edwatch: Equity Project Charter School, The (TEP)

Organization Name: Equity Project Charter School, The (TEP)
Company Line: TEP teachers are valued and sustained through revolutionary compensation: a $125,000 annual salary and the opportunity to earn a significant annual bonus based on school-wide performance. TEP has created a sustainable and conservative financial model that allows the school to compensate its teachers appropriately without relying on outside private funding. It accomplishes this primarily through cost savings that result directly from the tremendous quality and productivity of its teachers. In short, hiring and paying master teachers what they are worth is a cost-effective mechanism for boosting student achievement.
Bottom Line: According the 990's filed with the IRS for the past three years, TEP has paid no one over $100,000 a year, has received funding from private sources, and has 480 students. Publicly, TEP claims to pay teachers $125,000 base salary plus up to $25,000 in bonuses, to not accept private funding, to enroll 125 students.
